Where are you from?
Born in Overland Park, lived in Missouri my whole life. Lived in South KC until I got married in 2011 and moved to Grandview.
What do you do here?
Stuff. Lots of it. Like write code mostly. I handle retainer work for a lot of our clients and keep things moving.
What do you enjoy most about working at Code Koalas?
The autonomy and the confidence I have to know that I can be handed projects with the expectations that I will do awesome things. The Office wars, the games, and the overall learning is awesome attitude I feel working here
How did you get started in development?
I started learning how to code in my senior year in high school. I was homeschooled and I had completed extra curriculum in my previous year that I had to find something to do that would still count as learning (playing video games my parent’s didn’t go for. Was worth a try!). So I decided to teach myself to code. And over the course of my senior year I learned Visual Basic and C#.
What are some tools you use on a daily basis?
PHPStorm is the best. Other tools I use are Git, VIM, Slack and Gmail.
If you could do anything else, what would it be?
Really dive into C++ and learn WebGL, DirectX and game engines such as Unreal.
Favorite thing about Kansas City?
Same state my wife lives in? Can’t think of any specific reason. I stay for people, don’t have a connection to any one location.
How do you like your coffee?
Poured down the drain.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
Since I was like 10 I wanted to be a game designer.
What would your superpower be if you could choose one?
Items on your bucket list?
If I die, there should be enough evidence in my life to show that I’m a follower of Christ.
Star Wars or Star Trek?
Neither is better than the other to me. Both have their differences and I appreciate that fact.
How early did you start coding?
Senior year in high school and ever since.
What got you interested in development?
Wanted to create my own video game.
